  • Geometry and Spatial Sense:

    1. Complex polygons and 3D shapes

    2. Angles

    3. Coordinate grids for mapping/movement

  • Measurement:

    1. Volume, capacity, and mass

    2. Area and perimeter of irregular shapes

    3. Elapsed time and money problems

  • Data:

    1. Collecting and analyzing data sets

    2. Graphing (bar, line, circle),

    3. Probability and predicting outcomes based on data.

  • Reading:
    Reading and analyzing more complex texts, including a range of genres and nonfiction. Building comprehension skills by making inferences, identifying themes, and evaluating the author's purpose.

  • Writing:
    Writing well-organized multi-paragraph texts, including persuasive, narrative, and explanatory forms. Emphasizing proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation, as well as revising and editing.

  • Understanding Life Systems:

    1. Human organ systems (e.g., circulatory, respiratory)

    2. Functions of organ systems and their interdependence

    3. How systems maintain human health.

  • Understanding Matter and Energy:

    1. Properties of matter and changes of state

    2. Concept of energy conservation

    3. Investigation of heat sources and their effects on matter.

  • Understanding Earth and Space Systems:

    1. Examination of weather and climate patterns

    2. Factors influencing weather and their impact on human activities

    3. How weather affects natural environments.
